SEOUL, Jan. 3 (Yonhap) -- Musical "Memphis," written by rock band Bon Jovi member David Bryan, will be performed for the first time in Korea next July. Based on September 11 attacks, "Come from Away," which earned musical awards globally, will meet Korean audiences in November.

Production company Shownote, which have presented original musicals "The Tale April Fools" and Broadway work "If Then" in the past, on Tuesday announced eight works of plays·musicals which will be staged this year.

They will first present two Broadway works in which their literary values and popularity have already been recognized by receiving various musical accolades.

"Memphis," which will be performed at grand theater in Chungmu Art Center in July to October, won Best Music award at Tony Awards in 2010.

Set in Memphis, a city located in the southern part of U.S where apartheid still remained in 1950s, the musical depicts the real life of Dewey Phillips, who helped to popularize Rock and Roll to white society.

With the intense and addictive music by David Brian, the work was performed in not just Broadway, but also U.K, Japan, Australia, Germany, etc.

Musical "Come from Away," set in the time period when September 11 attacks happened, will take place at BBCH Hall in Kwanglim Arts Center in November. Original works first premiered in Daehak-ro will meet the fans again.

A screen adaption of novel "Demian" by Hermann Hesse will be performed for the second time since 2020.

It made a headline during its first premier as one actor acted out both Sinclair and Damian without having fixed roles

"The Tale April," which was first premiered last year, will meet fans again after a year this June at SKU Arts Center. The musical features the true story that happened between 19th century Romanticism writer Bryon in 19th century and John William Polidori, the writer of vampire novel "A Vampire Tale" as well as Bryon's doctor.

At Plus Theater in August, musical "Gutenberg" will be staged for the first time in six years. It's a two-person musical about the adventure of musical writer Bud and playwright Doug.

Experimental modern play will also be presented.

A Franco-Uruguayan playwright and director, Sergio Blanco's play "Tebas land" will be staged at Medium theater Black in Chungmu Arts Center from June to September.

The work depicts the story of criminal Martin who was sentenced for life for murdering his dad and playwright S who tries to make Martin's story into a documentary performance. The work tosses a heavy question regarding the boundary between the truth and the fabrication that is reenacted artistically.
