Director Yeon Sang-ho of Netflix movie 'Jung_E' "Actress Kang Soo-yeon was the beginning of project 'Jung_E'"

SEOUL January 12 (Yonhap) -- “When actress Kang Soo-yeon addressed her interest in the project, was the starting point of everything.” addressed director Yeon Sang-ho throughout the press conference of the upcoming Netflix Movie Jung_E which was held at Lotte Cinema located in Gwangjin district, Seoul on Thursday.

“Jung_E, which will be premiering through Netflix on January 20, will be the last movie actress Kang Soo-yeon will ever appear due to her recent passing. The movie depicts the story of desperate researchers who are in hurry to create an AI battle robot based on the memory of the legendary mercenary Jung_E acted by actress Kim Hyun-joo so that it can save the human race which has been suffering from the long lasting war caused by the chaos due to the environmental failure in planet earth.

Actress Kang Soo-yeon played a role of a lead researcher Yoon Seo-hyun of the project Jung_E throughout the upcoming Netflix movie “Jung_E.” Yoon Seo-hyun tries very hard to come up with the best AI in order to restore the honor her mother once had before she was injured and became a vegetable throughout the battle.

Director Yeon, addressed “Given the situation, I feel like actress Kang Soo-yeon was the motivation that pushed everyone to work very hard, she is the reason Jung_E was created as a movie.”

Continuing on, director stated “While I was thinking of who might protagonist Yoon Seo-hyun be suitable for, I was struck with actress Kang Soo-yeon. That is when I started to feel the want to turn Jung_E into a movie. When I first engaged in aconversation with Kang Soo-yeon, I was drenched in sweat because I was so nervous.”

Throughout the video showcased during the press conference actress Kang Soo-yeon addressed “Director Yeon’s idea of wanting to create a true South Korean version of the SF movie was very impressive.”

Actor Ryu Kyung-soo and actress Kim Hyun-joo who participated at the press conference shed tears thinking of the deceased actress Kang Soo-yeon.

“When I heard that I was going to act with Kang Soo-yeon the first thing that came into my mind was, ‘can I do this?’ however she was one of the most passionate actresses I have worked with.” addressed actress Kim Hyun-joo reminiscing of actress Kang Soo-yeon.
Actor Ryu Kyung-soo stated “My general respect for actress Kang Soo-yeon can be seen throughout the way I act, In the future, I would like to be like her and that is an affirmative statement I still live by.” adding “I think working with actress Kang Soo-yeon will be one of the greatest achievements I will ever have throughout my acting career.

Upcoming Netflix movie “Jung_E” is receiving a lot of spotlight due to the fact for being an SF movie. Director Yeon addressed “I participated in the production with the mindset of having to work on a film based on a SF book that I read in the past,” adding “I hope viewers of the movie will be able to receive the exciting feelings young version of Yeon Sang-ho felt when he was first introduced to SF movies.”

Continuing on actress Kim Hyun-joo addressed “Since it is very rare to find SF movies in South Korea, I think it will successfully draw a lot of people’s attention. Since we had to build up a new unique tone however, I have done my best to create ‘Jung_E’.”

“Jung_E is actress Kim Hyu-joo and actor Ryu Kyung-soo’s second collaboration with director Yeon Sang-ho. Director Yeon Sang-ho, actress Kim Hyun-joo and actor Ryu Kyung-soo who met one another through Netflix series “Hell Bound” which premiered in 2021, will also collaborate on the upcoming production of “Seon-san” (literal translation).
