SEOUL, May 16 (Yonhap) – S. Korean singer and actress IU(Lee Ji-eun) has donated 200 million won in celebration of her birthday to children and single parent families in need.

The agency EDAM Entertainment said on May 16, “IU donated 210 million won to various charity groups, such as The Snail of Love, Korean Unwed Mothers Families Association, Eden I ville, and Chang-In-Won.”

The donations were delivered in line with IU’s birthday on May 16.

The singer has constantly made contributions under the name of “IU” and her fan club name “UAENA” in celebration of special days.

IU’s donations will be used for surgery and treatment of children suffering from hearing impairment. They will also be used to support single-parent families, child care institution, and institution for people with disabilities.

The agency said, “IU was able to have a very meaningful birthday by making donations to people in need with her fans who celebrated the singer’s birthday.”

IU, who debuted in 2008, has received great attention of various age groups by performing as a great female solo artist with her soulful music.

The singer is expected to hit Cannes’ red carpet ahead of the release of the movie “Broker” next month.
