SEOUL, Oct. 1 (Yonhap) -- "Show Me the Money," a rap competition TV show that started airing back in 2012 on music channel Mnet, is perceived to have changed the spectrum of Korean hip-hop, celebrated its 10th anniversary this year.
Mnet announced Friday that it will find a new star to complete the masterpiece of the Korean hip-hop genre through the tenth season of "Show Me the Money," which will premiere on Oct. 1.
During an online press conference for "Show Me the Money," Choi Hyo-jin, who oversees the rap program, said she tried to focus on "originality" since the show has a history and legitimacy that has lasted for 10 years. "This season can be seen as the condensed version of the show's past, present, and future," she added.
"Viewers will be able to see the true nature of rappers who are currently active in the hip-hop industry," Choi said. "There are famous rappers and newcomers, and this season will allow the audience to see the two groups battle in an interesting match."
The production team also stressed that it has implemented AR (Augmented Reality) technology and prepared a second set as well.
Four pairs of rappers including Gray and Song Mino, Zion.T and Slom, Gaeko and Code Kunst, Yumdda and Toil also attended the press conference.
"I've always worked with Slom and I've been attracted to 'Show Me the Money' because I enjoy being creative as a whole. I have now gotten myself involved in this battle again," Zion.T said laughing.
Meanwhile rapper Gray confidently said, "Song Mino has a lot of stage experience, so he can further upgrade the participating rapper's performances."
Song, a member of K-pop boy band Winner and a contestant of "Show Me the Money" himself talked about his feelings as returning as the producer for the show. "My life was a survival. I grew up in a survival environment from the start so I'll be able to pass on my know-how and be the best supporter."
"I've been the runner-up contestant (in "Show Me the Money 4"), but I don't think my position as producer is more comfortable. I'm very nervous to be a producer," Song said with a smile.
"In terms of painting, the producer's job is like coloring the base of the picture, and I think it'll be really fun. During the earlier seasons of 'Show Me the Money, we had a lot of experienced veteran rappers as contestants, but this time we have a lot of new faces," Gaeko said.
"The contestants who have became members of my team are very pure and motivated. So I'm also starting to build up my creative ability that I didn't know I had either," Code Kunst said.
Yumdda expressed his confidence by saying, "Our team will take two things that rappers want most: fame and money."
About 27,000 people were found to have applied for the audition.
The first episode will air at 11pm on Friday.
