SEOUL, Nov. 21 (Yonhap) -- Weekend dramas led by Kim Hye-soo, Song Joong-ki, and Kim Re-won are engaged in a heated competition.
According to the data by Nielson Korea on Monday, tvN Saturday-Sunday drama "Under the Queen's Umbrella" starring Kim Hye-soo recorded audience ratings of 13.4%. This is their own highest ratings.
First aired on Oct. 15,sixteen episode drama has only four episodes left. Kim Hye-soo's first historical film in 9 years after movie "The Face Reader," the drama is maintaining its top position with the highest audience ratings among weekend dramas.
Kim Hye-soo shows mother love as the Queen to protect her children with charisma. The conflicts between Kim Hye-soo and an empress of the late king are creating tension between female characters, rare to be seen in typical historical drama.
In the episode 12, the fight between Hwa-ryeong, who tries to appoint Cheong-ha as the crown princess, and empress of the late king unfolded interestingly. There is much anticipation for Oh Ye-joo, who plays Cheong-ha, because she acts out crown princess who never feels intimidated even in the quiet palace very well.
JTBC drama "Reborn Rich," which aired last week, recorded audience ratings of 10.8% in just three episodes. Three episodes released consequentially, there was an increase of audeince viewership ; first episode 6.1%, second 8.8%, and third 10.8%.
Song Joong-ki plays the main character whose life is reset as the youngest member of the Soonyang Group family after being unfairly killed while living as Yoon Hyun-woo, a secretary who takes care of the family of the Soonyang Group.
The drama, which began with the time setting of now, explained the background of Song Joong-ki's second life as Jin Do-joon in 1987. It is raising interest by adding historical facts such as the election of President Roh Tae-woo following the failure of unification of Kim Young-sam and Kim Dae-jung and the bombing of KAL planes in 1987.
In the first episode, Song Joong-ki plays Yoon Hyun-woo, in the second episode, a child actor plays young Jin Do-joon, and in the third episode, Song Joong-ki plays grown-up Jin Do-joon, leading the drama in a speedy manner.
