SEOUL, April 12 (Yonhap) -- "It's already been 17 years since I debuted as a singer. Based on my experiences over the years, I want to offer good advice to participants on the skills and character traits required to be a singer."
Mnet's idol survival program 'Island season 2: N/a' returns after four years on the 18th. While season 1 produced the boy group Enhypen, season 2 aims to create a girl group.
Singer Taeyang expressed at the Mnet 'Island 2: N/a (Island 2)' production presentation held on the 12th in Seongsu-dong, Seongdong-gu, Seoul, "I want to create wonderful artists with unpredictable colors."
'Island 2' is an observational reality program that captures the competition among 24 trainees for the next generation of K-pop artists. Taeyang leads the participants as the main producer.
Taeyang stated, "Before my debut, I also participated in survival programs, and many people watched me grow. I hope to support the applicants who are moving towards their dreams this time as well."
'Island 2' introduces a concept where participants compete by moving between the dream space 'Island' and the elimination space 'Ground.'
Taeyang emphasized, "I think the role of a producer is to lead participants to discover their own identity."
He added, "As idols receive love from the public, it is natural that high standards are required. I believe that having the mindset to handle this responsibility on their own is more fundamental than skills or character."
Furthermore, he emphasized, "I will lead the participants to strengthen their minds and foster pride in creating an iconic girl group that has never existed before."
Season 1, broadcast in 2020, was a joint project between CJ ENM and HYBE, but this time, instead of HYBE, producer Teddy leads with Double Black Label.
Alongside Taeyang from Double Black Label, producers 24 and VVN are participating, with Monica as the choreographer and Leejung as the performance director.
Regarding the judging criteria, 24 mentioned, "Rather than someone who is good at many things, we are paying attention to individuals with a definite talent."
Monica said, "In addition to simple techniques, there are many things like expressiveness, concentration, and stage control needed. I will guide the cast to show many charms in a short period."
