SEOUL, Feb. 24 (Yonhap) -- The Korea Foundation (KF) will showcase two exhibitions that will artificially visualize the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which have been standing as an international blueprint for creating a sustainable planet for the future generation.
The Foundation has joined hands with the Czech Cultural Center in Korea to hold this exhibition, titled “Towards the Day after Today,” at Seoul’s KF Gallery from Feb. 27 to Apr. 7.
A total of 17 photographs of a budding Czech writer David Tiensinski and another 17 artworks produced by the Czech Cultural Center, collectively titled “SDGs: Innovation for a Sustainable Future,” will be on display.
These works are all created based on the 17 different slogans of SDGs established and announced by the UN. The exhibition will comprehensively identify and analyze the danger signs of crises in order to urge prompt behavioral changes. It will particularly emphasize how our everyday lives and the world are in disarray due to rapidly aggravating poverty, environmental pollution, and climate change.
In his works, Tysinski will show an elementary school in the Ukrainian war zone and people living in slums from all across the world including Jamaica, as well as the victims of the disastrous fire that was deliberately set in Amazon, Brazil.
The exhibition intends to take a keen look at the world where inequality, exploitation and exclusion, aggression, and antagonism have become commonplace.
Meanwhile, this “SDGs: Innovation for a Sustainable Future” exhibition was able to take its fullest form by the Czech Cultural Center’s headquarters deploying augmented reality (AR) and pictogram technologies. The Center has planned the exhibition also to commemorate the Czech presidency of the European Union (EU) since the second half of last year.
By using an app downloaded on a smartphone or tablet to scan these artworks, the 3D images of these graphically designed and animated SDGs will pop up on the screen.
The project, which will be introduced for the very first time in Asia, has already been well-received in European countries such as the Czech Republic, Sweden, and the U.K.
Kim Ki-hwan, the chairman of KF, said, “I hope the exhibition will serve as an opportunity to look back on the concept of sustainability and SDGs, and a venue to ponder over the small changes we can make in our daily lives.”
