SEOUL, April 19 (Yonhap) -- The report of the Silla Tombs in Geumcheok-ri, Gyeongju, located in the area of 231-6 Geumcheok-ri, Geoncheon-eup, Gyeongju-si, North Gyeongsang province, where an excavation was conducted in 1981, was released in 40 years since its excavation.

 

The National Museum of Gyeongju announced on the 19th that along with the Gyeongju Cultural Heritage Research Office (renamed to Gyeongju National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage), it has published a report containing information about the characteristics and relics of the "Silla Tombs in Geumcheok-ri, Gyeongju," which was investigated from the April and May of 1981.


The Silla Tombs in Geumcheok-ri, Gyeongju was found during the construction for the water supply. During the research, 2 wood-framed burial chamber tombs, 13 wooden chamber tomb with stone mounds, 2 Jar coffins and 1 unidentified architectural remains were confirmed.

Some of the relics that were excavated from the tombs were revealed through the special exhibitions in 1996 and 2014.

The report introduced 664 relics and 1,065 pieces including gilt-bronze coffins, earrings, earthenware and many more.

Papers on the ingredients and manufacturing techniques of gold earrings excavated from the Ancient Tombs in Geumcheok-ri, and the analysis of the manufacturing process of the iron relics are also included.

"The report has been written on the basis of the investigation done in 1981," said an official from the Gyeongju National Museum. "Original materials were used to introduce drawings and photos when possible and the observation results with the reference of the recent academic achievements were also included."
