SEOUL, Mar. 21 (Yonhap) -- South Korean veteran actor Park Hae-il has joined a campaign to have records of the Jeju April 3 Incident to be inscribed on the UNESCO list as a World Heritage.
The actor appeared in a campaign video released by the island and said, “The Jeju April 3 Incident was an exemplary uprising by which the Jeju residents overcame national violence and peacefully reached a conclusion by themselves.”
Park also participated in the online cheering campaign held on the April 3 incident comprehensive information system, writing, “I support the Jeju April 3 Incident to be inscribed on the UNESCO list.”
From this day on, the campaign video will be shared via social spaces all over Jeju Island, Jeju City, and Seogwipo City, as well as the bus information system.
Park recently returned to the big screens with the smash-hit films “Decision to Leave” and “Hansan: Rising Dragon,” released last year.
Cho Sang-beom, the director of the Jeju Special Self-Governing Administration Bureau, said, “Among the 14,660 victims of the Jeju April 3 Incident, only 116 survived,” adding, “I hope that the uprising's records will be inscribed on the UNESCO list when at least one of the surviving victims is yet alive.”
