Korean Canadian director Gloria Kim becomes nominee of Best Director's Award at'Canadian Screen Award'

SEOUL March 7 (Yonhap) -- Korean Canadian film and television director has been nominated at the “Canadian Screen Awards” under the “TV Drama” segment for the “Best Director’s Award.”

According to the Canada’s biggest nonprofit art community Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television on Tuesday, Gloria Kim also known as Kim Ui-young in Korean has been nominated as a candidate for the final prize winner of the TV drama segment within directors at the Canadian Screen Awards with her production “Heartland” aired through CBC.

“Heartland” depicts a story of a family who lives in a ranch located in Alberta. The program has managed to place within the top 10 of the programs loved by users within Netflix.

The award for best director gets selected by the panel members who are either members of the Academy or works within the same industry. Director Gloria Kim has been nominated alongside director Charles Officer from “The Porter,” Cory Bowles from “Corner” and more.

The award ceremony will take place at the Meridian Hall located in Toronto of Canada, on April 16 (Canada Time) and CBC and CBC Gem will be broadcasting the award ceremony live.

Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television which withholds over 4 thousand actors and actresses and associated members hosts a Canadian Screen Awards annually.

Director Gloria Kim was born in Seoul and later on moved to Toronto when she was three. Later on she majored in English in University of London, and worked as a reporter of a magazine and transitioned into film industry.

Gloria Kim is known for her work “Queen of the Morning Calm” which was awarded with the “Best Director’s Award” at the Canadian Film Festival in 2020, and she directed CBC drama series Murdoch Mysteries and more.
