SEOUL September 7 (Yonhap) -- Outstanding Guest Actress award winner of Emmys’ actress Lee Yoo-mi’s first drama after she became an adult actress “Mental Coach Jegal” will be premiering on September 12.
“When looking though the list of actresses, Lee Yoo-mi, was not on the list, but actor Jung Woo asked me to pick Lee Yoo-mi as a cast, and that is how she became to be part of the cast.” Director of the drama Son Jeong-hyun shared a behind story during the online press conference held for the upcoming drama “Mental Coach Jegal” which will be premiering through South Korean broadcasting provider tvN.
“When I was thinking of who to cast for the upcoming drama, was right when ‘Squid Game’ dropped on Netflix, throughout the series actress Lee Yoo-mi did an amazing job acting out her character, also I saw her desperateness through her acting.” adding “For her role, actress Lee Yoo-mi practiced her ice skating skills on Christmas eve.” announced director Son Jeong-hyun through the press conference.
“Mental Coach Jegal” depicts a story of protagonist Je Gal-gil acted by Jung Woo, a former national Taekwondo player who was banned from competing ever again who becames a mental coach that encourages athletes who are suffering through their slump to get back on their feet.
Actor Jung Woo will act out protagonist Je Gal-gil and actress Lee Yoo-mi will act out female protagonist Cha Ga-eul, short track gold medalist who is suffering through her slump.
“Drama ‘Mental Coach Jegal’ is a comforting drama for those who feels the gap between the ideal and real.” adding “There are numerous touching lines throughout the series, therefore I am more than positive that this drama will be a great one.” addressed director of the drama Son Jeong-hyun throughout the press conference.
Actress Lee Yoo-mi smiled and chuckled while stating “Until now I was casted for roles where the character dies in the middle of the series but this time I will be alive and well throughout the series to see it end, since it’s my first time fully participating in a whole drama, I am very excited.”
Continuing on Lee Yoo-mi stated “Since I needed to know how to run on ice, I started practicing with a professional short track team three months before the production started. It was much harder than I expected but it was also very fun.”
Throughout the press conference, actor Jung Woo gave a brief description of his character as “When I was given with the script, it sent out a very positive vibe, that is one of the reasons why it attracted me the most.” adding “When I need to act out serious scenes I was very down to earth and focused within the scene, however, protagonist Je Gal-gil is a very positive and extroverted character who is very bright and funny.” continuing on “I think this will be that one drama people in favor of seeing similar character I acted out in ‘Reply 1994’ will be most satisfied with.”
