SEOUL, Oct. 21 (Yonhap) -- "I imagined how a person would appear after enduring eight years of relentless suffering and fear in hell," shared actor Kim Sung-chul.

The popular Netflix series "Hellbound," which garnered 110 million viewing hours within ten days of its release, is back with its second season, featuring an even more engrossing dystopian world.

During the production presentation held at JW Marriott Dongdaemun Square in Seoul on the 21st, Kim Sung-chul, who joins as the lead in "Hellbound Season 2," expressed his confidence, saying, "We have realized a vision of hell that no one could have imagined before." The new season, set for release on the 25th, continues the story of supernatural events where people receive unannounced condemnations to hell by mysterious creatures. The plot unfolds around the resurrection of Park Jung-ja and Jung Jin-soo, who had been previously sentenced to hell.

This season introduces Kim Sung-chul taking over the role of Jung Jin-soo, the founding leader of the New Truth Society, a character who conceals his own condemnation to hell. Kim explained, "Jung Jin-soo, who returns after eight years in hell, is left with only fear and dread, having lost everything else. I focused on portraying a constant look of terror, as if he is being perpetually chased by something." He added, "I had a strong desire to stay true to the original webtoon character of Jung Jin-soo. I thought about how he would behave and tailored my voice and expressions accordingly."

Kim Hyun-joo, reprising her role as Min Hye-jin, leader of the resistance group Sodo against the New Truth Society and Arrowhead, stated, "I channeled everything through the action scenes, delivering stronger and more intense action infused with emotion." Kim Shin-rok, who plays the resurrected Park Jung-ja, revealed, "My performance was bold enough to cause quite a stir among the crew watching the monitors."

The series also brings in new cast members such as Moon So-ri, Yang Dong-geun, Moon Geun-young, and Lim Sung-jae.

Moon Geun-young, returning to the screen after three years, plays a key figure in the fanatical Arrowhead group known as Haetsal Teacher. She commented, "It’s probably the most radical transformation in my career. I didn’t even recognize myself at times. I’ve always been eager for new roles, and with this opportunity, I feel like a fish in water, fully immersing myself in the role."

Director Yeon Sang-ho, who directed and wrote the series, acknowledged the high expectations for the sequel.

He said, "Season 1 captivated audiences with its unique universe and ended by introducing the theme of resurrection, which naturally heightened anticipation for Season 2. But we won’t simply repeat what we did before."

He continued, "We built on the universe from Season 1 to craft Season 2, and worked to take the story in a completely new direction. Viewers can expect a fresh and exciting experience."
