SEOUL, Dec. 24 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's major terrestrial TV channel SBS admitted allegations over editing certain order of events on its sports entertainment show "Kick a Goal" and apologized to the public.
"We sincerely apologize for editing the order of events that happened during our latest episode," SBS said Friday.
"Kick a Goal," a show which puts different Korean female celebrities together in groups for a soccer tournament, became controversial for its latest episode that aired on Dec. 22. The episode showcased a competitive match between the teams "FC Giants" and "FC Wonder Woman" as the scores changed from 3-0, 3-2, 4-2, to 4-3. In the end, the FC Giants won by 6-3.
However, in the middle of the match, the scoreboard showed 4-0 and people pointed out that the score gap had already widened in the first half with FC Giants scoring a total 5-0 victory, rather than playing the competitive match shown in the edited episode. Some viewers added that FC Wonder Woman had begun to earn their three points during the second half of the game.
"Even if the results and final score of the game still remain true, the order of events that happened in real life were edited and aired differently," SBS said.
"These inaccuracies are the result of the production team's complacency," SBS apologized. "Through this incident, we truly realized that portraying the accurate turn of events in sports is more important than pursuing entertainment, and we will pay special attention to editing our shows to prevent incidents like this from happening again in the future."
