SEOUL, Nov. 9 (Yonhap) -- South Korean director Yeon Sang-ho, who previously directed movies like "Train to Busan" and "Peninsula," will be releasing his six-part fantasy horror "Hellbound" on Netflix as an original series on Nov. 19.

Based on the director's own webtoon, "Hellbound" depicts a hell-like chaotic situation after people are sentenced by figures from hell. The supernatural fantasy features incidents between a group of religious fanatics and those who try to discover the truth.

Director Yeon calmly yet coldly captures the reality of how humans living in advanced modern society can collapse in front of a mysterious phenomena and how far humans can change.

In addition, the messages contained in the director's previous works, such as "Train to Busan" and "Peninsula," which both depicted a situation where humans were left in an apocalypse, and drama "The Cursed," which portrayed violence in a hate society, were all condensed in the upcoming series.

The cast's skillful acting skills helped increase the immersion level of viewers. Actor Yoo Ah-in plays Jeong Jin-soo, a leader with mysterious charisma who leads a cult called "Saejinrihwe," while Kim Hyun-joo acts as Min Hye-jin, an attorney who digs into Saejinrihwe. Yang Ik-june takes on the role of Jin Kyeong-hoon, a detective who decides to cover the truth for his daughter. In particular, Kim Shin-rok plays Park Jung-ja, who agrees to broadcast her death on live for children, captivates the audience by expressing raw human emotions and deep maternal love ahead of her death.

However, some pointed out that the figures from hell, are reminiscent of the monsters from Netflix's original series "Sweet Home" and do not maximize the fear "Hellbound" hopes to give to the audience.
