SEOUL, August 12 (Yonhap) -- Broadway Musical classic “West Side Story” will meet domestic fans in Nov.
“West Side Story” will be performed at Chungmu Art Center from Nov. 17 to Feb. 26 of 2023, production company Shownote announced on Friday.
Based on Shakespeare's play “Romeo and Juliet,” this work depicts the tragic love story of Tony and Maria amid the conflict between New York immigrant groups, Jets and the Sharks, in the 1950s in U.S.
Musical actors Junsu, Park Kang-hyun, and Go Eun-seong will play the role of “Tony,” and actress Han Jaeah and Lee Ji-su will take the role of “Maria.”
Premiered in Broadway in 1957, “West Side Story” is a classic musical in which Leonard Bernstein, who was once a conductor of New York Philharmonic orchestra, composed songs and dancer Jerome Robbinson, lyricist Stephen Sondheim and playwright Arthur Laurents participated as staffs.
The work was also made into a movie by Steven Spielberg last year.
Music director Kim Moon-jeong and dancer Julio Monge will participate in the domestic musical.
