SEOUL, Aug. 13 (Yonhap) -- Crime suspense Series "Your Honor," starring Kim Myung-min and Son Hyun-joo, has debuted with a viewership rating in the 1% range.
According to Nielsen Korea on the 13th, the first episode of ENA's Your Honor, which aired the previous day, recorded a rating of 1.736%. This is slightly lower than the 2.232% rating of ENA's Crash, which aired in the same time slot and concluded in June of this year.
The premiere episode depicted a tragic car accident and its ensuing consequences. Song Ho-young (played by Kim Do-hoon), while driving his late mother's car on the way back from a columbarium, loses concentration due to strong sunlight and an asthma attack, crossing the center line and colliding with an oncoming motorcycle.
Song Pan-ho (played by Son Hyun-joo), Ho-young's father and a chief judge, initially intends to take his son to the police to turn himself in, consistent with his strict and upright character. However, he learns from the news that the accident victim is the son of Kim Kang-heon (played by Kim Myung-min), a notorious mob boss who often resorts to violence over legal solutions.
Fearing that Kim Kang-heon might harm his son, Song Pan-ho chooses to cover up the evidence instead of reporting the crime. He orchestrates the scene to make it appear as though the car was stolen, disposes of the blood-stained clothes, and acts swiftly to erase any traces of the accident.
Kim Kang-heon, upon seeing his son's body at the morgue, is enraged when he hears the police speculate that his son might have survived had he been taken to the hospital immediately after the accident and that the expected sentence for the perpetrator would be only about two years in prison.
Your Honor marks Kim Myung-min's return to television after three years and is the first drama where he and Son Hyun-joo have acted together. The first episode drew attention as both actors delivered compelling performances, portraying the intense emotions of their characters faced with a tragic event.
The episode's ironic plot, where the son of a law-abiding judge kills the son of a mob boss who disregards the law, captured viewers' attention. However, certain actions, such as Song Ho-young continuing to drive despite struggling to breathe and fleeing the scene without helping the injured victim, were seen as questionable and difficult to understand.
