SEOUL, Mar. 7 (Yonhap) — Content media group NEW will expand its business area online by producing web dramas and web entertainment shows.
The NEW film division announced on Monday that it plans to diversify its business by producing and investing in web IP-based content.
A content planning team dedicated to new media was established and various web IPs such as webtoons were secured.
NEW will also showcase four BL(Boys Love) web dramas including "Blooming," based on the webtoon "There’s something wrong with my popularity.” All four were pre-sold overseas.
“Blooming,” which will be released on Naver SERIES ON on Mar. 31, was created with Kenaz, a webtoon production company that produced the original work.
Hwang Da-seul, who directed "To My Star," will direct the web drama depicting campus romance between college students Siwon and Daun.
“Ddarabaram,” (literal title) co-produced with Myung Films, will be released in the first half of this year.
The webtoon of the same name is based on the romance of band vocal Baram and band manager Hantae.
Director So Joon-moon of the movie "Shining Moment" will produce the web drama.
In addition, “Bon Appétit,” co-produced with Gogo Studio and “Love Tractor,” co-produced by Raemong Raein will be released sequentially.
Kim Jae-min, the CEO of NEW film department said, “We have discovered new possibilities in domestic and overseas markets where BL content is activated,” adding, “We will collaborate with domestic and foreign partners to introduce various content businesses using web IP."
