SEOUL, Feb. 17(Yonha) – JTBC’s new drama "Thirty-Nine” starring Son Ye-jin, Jeon Mi-do, and Kim Ji-hyun started off with a 4.4 percent viewership

The first episode of JTBC’s new Wednesday-Thursday drama "Thirty-Nine,” which was aired on Feb. 16 at 10 p.m., recorded 4.4 percent in viewership, according to the ratings company Nielsen Korea.

The first episode depicted the story of three friends, Cha Mi-jo(Son Ye-jin), Jeong Chan-young(Jeon Mi-do), and Jang Ju-hui(Kim Ji-hyun), who have been together for more than 20 years.

From the age of 18 when they first met until the time they are on the brick of turning 40, the friends always stood by each other and went through ups and downs by eating tteokbokki and drinking alcohol together.

Recurring coincidences of Cha Mi-jo and Kim Seon-woo(Yeon Woo-jin) were also depicted in the drama. The two found something in common with each other during their third meeting and realized that they were not meant to just pass by as they ran into each other even after spending the night together.

The first episode of “Thirty-Nine,” which receives attention as Son Ye-jin's latest drama, drew laughter and sympathy from viewers by depicting the pleasant daily lives of the three friends.

It also reminded of the drama "Now, We Are Breaking Up,” starring Song Hye-kyo, which recently ended, in that it implies the terminally ill character and displays “womance(neologism that combines the word woman and romance)” of three women.

However, while "Now, We Are Breaking Up” focused on the romance between Song Hye-kyo and Jang Ki-yong, “Thirty-Nine” portrayed cheerful and happy aspects of the three friends at the end of their 30s to capture a bright mood.

Son still showed a lovely "Melodrama Queen," while Jeon Mi-do and Kim Ji-hyun stably played the roles in contrast to those from their previous dramas.
