SEOUL, Mar. 13 (Yonhap) -- The Pohang International Fireworks Festival will return after four years of hiatus.
The Pohang Cultural Foundation will hold the Pohang International Fireworks Festival from May 26 to 28 at the sports park along the Hyeongsangang River.
The Festival has been put on hold since 2019 due to the global COVID-19 pandemic and typhoon damage. It was then held on a small scale in 2021 with only a limited number of people attending.
This year’s Festival will feature an international fireworks competition, fringe festival, light theme zones, concerts, street performances, and food markets. The competition will be held among four countries, including South Korea, the Phillippinnes which won the Montreal International Fireworks Competition, Italy which touts a hundred-year-long tradition, and Sweden which owns a representative European firework company.
The Korean team is planning to create the widest flame ever, reaching 1 kilometer. The Festival will also create fireworks shows based on designs submitted by citizens via an online contest.
An official from the Foundation said, “We will prepare to live up to the high expectations of citizens after a long wait.”
