SEOUL, August 19 (Yonhap) --JTBC's “Hidden Singer,” which celebrated its 10th anniversary, returns with season 7.
Producer Cho Seung-wook said, "I thought about how to show a different side in this season, and I am preparing with the mindset that I will produce a special show in each episode while maintaining the big picture," during an online production presentation on Friday.
“Hidden Singer” is a music competition program where original singer and impersonators compete. It was first aired in 2012, and it marked 10th anniversary this year.
Producer Cho said, “Although the start was weak, we were able to get this far thanks to the love from fans,” adding, “We added ‘Hidden song stage’ with the feedback that singing only four songs for our rounds were not enough.”
“Hidden Song” is a special stage where participants remake songs of senior singers or singers re-sing their songs to fit 2022 style.
The released lineup for singers includes Park Jung-hyun, Kim Min-jong, Uhm Jung-hwa, and Kim Hyun-sik, who passed away. The voice of singer Kim Hyun-sik, who passed away in 1990, will be extracted from the sound source.
Young singers who have just debuted will also be on the show. Producer Cho said, "In the past, singers who debuted before the program were on the show. But in season 7, singers who debuted after our program will also appear."
Young-tak, who mimicked singer Wheesung in “Hidden Singer 2” in 2013, and Choi Jeong-hoon of Jannabi, who debuted in 2014, will also appear.
Jun Hyun-moo, who has been the MC since season 1, said “I have special affection for this show as it was the first program I hosted after announcing to be free lancer.” adding, “My love for the show is special in that growth of ‘Hidden Singer’ coincides with my growth.”
He continued, “I host the show with care; Cast the singer, look at how meaningful this singer is, think whether to elimate them or not, tease them, and make sure unfamiliar impersonators are not discouraged.”
Song Eun-yi, the head of the celebrity judging panel who guesses the original singer, said, “The reason 'Hidden Singer' is consistently loved is because it is well prepared,” adding, “Program’s production ability and format is a know-how that other variety shows cannot follow.”
