SEOUL December 2 (Yonhap) -- “Being addressed as a pop singer makes me shy.” Hong Jin-young chuckled.
South Korean trot, Korean (traditional genre of music) singer returned to her fans with a different genre of music than trot.
Hong Jin-young who hosted the media showcase for her mini album “Color Mood” on Friday, addressed the reason for returning with a pop music other than trot.
“Surprisingly ’Viva La Vida’ which is a track that I released previously managed to place 9thh on the Billboard’s “World Digital Song Sales” chart, therefore I started dreaming of trying something abroad.” addressed Hong Jin-young throughout the media showcase of “Color Mood.”
“After the release of ‘Viva La Vida’ a lot of producers and writers were in touch therefore I started to work with foreign producers,” adding “I tried my best to grasp a great opportunity that has opened up for me by a pure luck.” Hong Jin-young stated throughout the media showcase.
Total of five tracks are included within the mini album “Color Mood” starting with the title track “Girl In The Mirror” followed by “Stay,” “Consolation,” and more.
“Girl In the Mirror” is a power pop genre of music where over the layer of strong strumming guitar and the deep heavy drum sound, Hong Jin-young sings the track which is written fully in English just like her previous track “Viva La Vida.”
“It has been a while since I last used English so it was hard preparing for the track” artist chuckled throughout the media showcase.
Since the artist was love greatly as a trot artist, trying out for such a new genre of music brought worries because it was a great challenge for her. As a result she incorporated the characteristic of Trot genre and placed repetitive lines throughout the track to mix in her unique characteristic throughout the title track.
“Since the challenge was not easy, I hope a lot fans will listen to the song with great generosity.” addressed Hong Jin-young throughout the media showcase.
The title track “Girl In the Mirror” is featured by a famous American singer songwriter Frawley known for her track “Hard Boy.” The collaboration was successfully made after Hong Jin-young sent a love call to Frawley after listening to Frawley’s music.
Throughout the media showcase, Frawley stated “When Hong first contacted me I was so excited, the music was not what I am used to therefore I started to got interested.”
Since the track being released is fully in English, Hong Jin-young showcased her interest and ambition towards the Billboard chart.
“Billboard is not a easy place to place your tracks, however number of producers and those who worked on the track said ‘We Might have a chance,”” addressed Hong Jin-young throughout the media showcase of her mini album, “Color Mood.”
Singer Hong Jin-young who was loved for her tracks “Love Battery,” “Love Tonight,” and number of trot took a break after her thesis submitted for master’s degree was accused of plagiarism in November of 2020.
Although the artist made a comeback with a pop genre of music, her originality still stands strong with Trot music. The artist addressed that she will be showcasing Trot genre of music in 2023.
