SEOUL, Mar. 12
(Yonhap) – The 22nd Gwangyang Plum Blossom Festival in South Jeolla Province,
held for the first time in four years, is crowded with springtime visitors.
According to
Gwangyang City on Sunday, the number of visitors to the festival, which opened
on the 10th, reached 550,000 until the previous day.
On weekends
alone, 170,000 people, the largest number ever, have visited.
For the
convenience of visitors, the city has increased free shuttle buses to and from
Dunchi parking lot and Dosa parking lot.
A 40-seater
round-trip temporary bus between Gwangju-Gwangyang-eup and Gwangyang Maehwa
Village is also operated every day.
The event, which
draws prizes such as golden plum blossoms and iPads worth 5 million won if you
present a receipt of more than 30,000 won approved by the region, is also
gaining popularity.
The city is
raising the festive mood by installing night lights at the festival venue and
preparing various programs such as KBS National Singing Contest and Namdo accommodation
discount.
"The number
of visitors on Saturday seems to have reached an all-time high due to the Gwangyang
Maehwa Festival in four years, the Gurye Sansuyu Festival and Sunday rain
forecasts," said Jeong Gu-young, head of the city's tourism division.
