SEOUL, Mar. 11 (Yonhap) -- The Gyeongnam Provincial Museum of Art will hold a special exhibition on the artwork of the renowned sculptor Shim Moon-seop from Mar. 17 to June 25 on the first and second floors of the Museum.

The very first exhibition of Shim, titled “Shim Moon-seop: Voyage of Time,” will mark the very first large-scale retrospective exhibition of Shim’s long-standing art voyage which he started more than 60 years ago in his hometown of Gyeongnam, the Museum explained Friday.

The exhibition will showcase a wide range of his artworks, starting from his very early experimental works, which garnered wide international attention in the 1970s to sculptures, drawings, and series of paintings that mark and represent each phase of his lifetime. More than 200 artworks and archive materials will be put under the spotlight.

Among them, many of his artworks that have never been introduced to the public will also be unveiled.

The exhibition will be divided into three sections, each named “Opening of the Chapter,” “Nature’s Sense,” and “Expanding Anti-Scarving,” along with an archive space showcasing diverse records, materials, and drawing works of the artist.

Park Hyun-hee, the Museum’s academic researcher, said, “We hope this exhibition will serve as an opportunity to examine where sculptor Shim, who has long been at the forefront of modern sculpture in Korea, stands in our art history and also get to know the significance and value of his artworks.”
