SEOUL, Nov. 28 (Yonhap) -- Girl-group BLACKPINK’s official YouTube channel has exceeded 70 million subscribers.
The channel’s number of subscribers surpassed 70 million at around 11:34 a.m. Sunday, according to their management agency YG Entertainment. This is record after about 5 years and 5 months since the channel was opened on June 28th 2016.
“This is the first and the highest record among all the artists in the world,” explained YG Entertainment.
The band was the first artist from non-English regions to be included in top 5 for the largest number of YouTube subscribers in July. Later they beat pop celebrities such as Ariana Grande, Eminem and Ed Sheeran.
On Sep. 10 this year, they outrun Justin Bieber to be the strongest YouTuber.
“Thinking that YouTube plays the main role in leading the changing global music market, the number of subscribers is a meaningful index,” said the agency.
Until now, BLACKPINK’s YouTube channel has 32 videos that have recorded 100-millions of views. The total views of these views can be added up to 21.3 billion YouTube views.
The music video for “DDU-DUDDU-DU,” title song of their 1st mini-album “SQUARE UP” in 2018, was the first K-pop music video to surpass 1.7 billion views.
