SEOUL, Oct. 8 (Yonhap) -- What would the mix of hip-hop and sitcom be like?
TVING, South Korean OTT platform will release “EMERGENCY,” a hip-hop medical sitcom on the 22nd, said the platform on an online conference Friday.
In “EMERGENCY,” which has been produced as a part of a special project for the 10th anniversary of Mnet’s popular hip-hop audition show “Show Me the Money,” rappers will appear as patients to visit rapper-specialized hospital, Mental Care Center, and will receive counseling treatments.
When asked about his feelings of appearing in a sitcom after 20 years since “New Nonstop,” singer-actor Yang Dong-geun (42), who will take the role of the head of the hospital, answered, “It has been long since the name, sitcom, disappeared. I am very pleased to join its revival.”
“I thought that Korea attempting hip-hop medical sitcom, an unpreceded genre is a ‘dae-bak’ (which means it is astonishing). I have joined the sitcom feeling like sticking the first flag on the moon,” added Yang.
“The program started off from people’s questions, why do rappers act like that, why do hip-hop people act like that. We intend to show the attraction and the nature of hip-hop in an entertaining and public form,” said Jo Woo-ri PD, the director of the program.
“The rappers’ worries I heard through ‘EMERGENCY’ were such beautiful youths. They talked of various hardships and they were beautiful worries as they were young. It will seem great when you see the show,” said Yang,
“I have begun my long voyage as an actor through ‘EMERGENCY,’ and it was such an honor to have acted with an excellent actor like Yang Dong-geun whom I respect so much,” said rapper Mommy Son about his first acting through a video.
“My rival is actor Cho Hyun-chul,” joked the rapper.
In “EMERGENCY,” singer Car, the Garden, Bassagong, Yukika, Omega Sapien, SF9 Zuho and actress Kim Hee-jung will appear as well.
“The program is a result of good energy emitted from the clashing of a virtual world and the guests’ raw faces. We hope for rapper E Sens, Beenzino and IU who is also known as one of Korea’s top tier hip-hop artists,” said Jo PD.
