SEOUL, Nov. 11 (Yonhap) -- As SBS' dark comedy drama "One the Woman" came to a close last weekend, the cast had time to reflect on their respective roles.
In a video interview for "One the Woman," which ended on Nov. 6, actress Jin Seo-yeon said she had 'wanted to portray an elegant villain' for her character Han Seong-hye.
In "One the Woman," Han Seong-hye is portrayed as the ambitious and greedy heiress in the family of a big business group called Hanju Group. Whenever Cho Yeon-ju (Lee Hanee) makes a witty remark or comes up with a refreshing comeback, Seong-hye is always left facing a frustrating situation.
Nevertheless, Seong-hye doesn't run around like she is crazy or scream in frustration when she is left in those situations. Instead, Seong-hye talks slowly and calmly orders others of her next strategy in addition to giving Yeon-ju her viper-like gaze.

"I tried to act very calmly and gracefully without expressing my inner feelings," Jin said. "I think I've spoken with the lowest tone out of all the characters I played before."
The 38-year-old actress said that she had always feared people who straightforwardly cut others off rather than those who raise their voices to express their feelings and that she had reflected those aspects in her character.
"Originally, Seong-hye was suppose to be a character who often expressed her emotions. But I intentionally chose not to follow parts of the script where I would convey my anger in the most basic way. Instead, I tried to calmly express my feelings through the nuances of facial expression. The point I really wanted to follow was to 'not fluctuate between emotions.'"
Jin, who took on several villain roles in the past with drama like "Tell Me What You Saw" (2020) and movie "Believer" (2018), opened up about the burdens that come with the role.
"I couldn't help but worry whether this role would bring me more hate from the audience," Jin said. "However, the reason I decided to star in the drama was to portray a villain that was different from the existing ones. I had faith that I could present that character."
"So, whenever the viewers responded with comments, like 'I don't think I've ever seen a villain like this before,' I was really proud that the audience recognized the direction I was going for," the actress added.

Jin's poised acting of Seong-hye was also intended to create an appearance that clearly contrasts with Lee Ha-nee's character, who was unstoppable and had a cheerful personality.
Throughout the drama, Jin and Lee Ha-nee are seen to be repeatedly raising and lowering the atmosphere's tension.
"Whenever Lee Ha-nee would approach me like a bulldozer with high tension, I would pull the atmosphere down, and when she approached me again, I would do the same thing," adding, "It was fun to work together and balance the tension."
Marking her 15th year as an actress this year, Jin said she had not decided what her next work would be yet. However, the actress mentioned that she would like to challenge melodrama like "The World of the Married" or a comical character like Lee Ha-nee.
"I know this must be a drama for all actors, but I want to be an actress who is irreplaceable," Jin said. "My goal is to play a character that everyone will remember throughout their lives."
