SEOUL, Mar. 12
(Yonhap) – Japanese animation “The First Slam Dunk” has set another record on
Sunday, surpassing 4 million cumulative audiences.
Distributor NEW
has announced that “The First Slam Dunk” has recorded a cumulative audience of
4 million at 4:20 p.m. on the 68th day of its release.
It has been a week
since it surpassed 3.81 million cumulative audiences on the 5th, setting the
highest box office record among Japanese films released in Korea. Until them
director Shinkai Makoto’s “Your Name.” (3.8 million people) had maintained its No.1
spot for six years.
"The First
Slam Dunk," which was released on January 4, has been a long-term hit,
maintaining its top box office position for nearly two months.
Takehiko Inoue,
who wrote the original cartoon "Slam Dunk," was in charge of the
scenario and directing the movie, drawing attention even before its release.
Director Inoue depicted
the game between Buksan and the Sanwang, which marked the end of the original
work, with "Short Guard" Song Tae-seop as the main character. In
addition, it applied a production technique using 3D technology to enhance the
visual beauty.
The
reinterpretation of the original work received favorable responses not only
from existing fans but also from teenagers and 20s who had not been able to
access cartoons, causing a "Slam Dunk craze."
Kim Min-ji, head
of the NEW PR team, said, "’The First Slam Dunk; is expected to rebound
slightly once again with the release of special theaters such as IMAX next
month."
