Lee Soon-jae Announces 3-Month Break from Acting Activities Due to Health Issues

SEOUL, Oct. 18 (Yonhap) -- Veteran actor Lee Soon-jae (89) has canceled his ongoing theater performances and will take a three-month break due to health concerns. 

 

The production company, Park Company, announced on social media on the 18th that all remaining performances of the play Waiting for Waiting for Godot, in which Lee was scheduled to appear, have been canceled.

 

Park Company explained, "Lee Soon-jae has been advised by his doctor to take a three-month rest," adding, "We sincerely apologize for the great disappointment to the audience who were looking forward to the performances."

 

With Lee Soon-jae stepping down, Waiting for Waiting for Godot will continue with only the performances featuring actors Kwak Dong-yeon and Park Jung-bok. Kwak Dong-yeon and Park Jung-bok play the roles of "Young Boss Esther" and "Late Bloomer Newbie Val," respectively.

 

Park Company also announced five additional performances featuring Kwak Dong-yeon and Park Jung-bok. These additional shows are scheduled for November 3, 10, 17, 24, and 30. A company representative stated, "With Lee Soon-jae's departure, Kwak Dong-yeon and Park Jung-bok have agreed to take part in additional performances on the dates that were previously canceled."

 

Earlier, on the 10th, Lee Soon-jae canceled a performance of Waiting for Waiting for Godot based on his doctor's recommendation for rest. On the 13th, he extended his break, canceling shows through the 20th, following further medical advice indicating a need for more rest.

 

Waiting for Waiting for Godot is a comedy play that pays homage to the classic play Waiting for Godot. Lee Soon-jae had been leading the production as the protagonist "Esther," alongside a cast of young actors including Kwak Dong-yeon, Kai, Park Jung-bok, Choi Min-ho, Jung Jae-won, and Park Soo-yeon.
