SEOUL, July 10 (Yonhap) -- "How can I be more annoying? I thought I needed to become a boss that people really wouldn't want to meet at work, so I raised my voice tone and studied 'irritating' speech patterns a lot," said actress Jang Nara.
In the human drama Good Partner, which tells the story of divorce lawyers, Jang Nara and Nam Ji-hyun play a veteran and a novice lawyer, respectively.
At the production presentation of Good Partner held at the SBS headquarters in Yangcheon-gu, Seoul on the 10th, Jang Nara explained, "Han Yoo-ri, played by Nam Ji-hyun, is a trustworthy, honest, and healthy character. I thought a lot about how to make her more frustrated."
Good Partner is a drama about two divorce lawyers with completely different personalities solving cases together. Jang Nara plays Cha Eun-kyung, a straightforward and cold 17-year veteran lawyer, while Nam Ji-hyun transforms into Han Yoo-ri, a novice lawyer who cannot tolerate injustice and deeply empathizes with her clients.
Cha Eun-kyung and Han Yoo-ri initially clash due to their stark personality differences and contrasting work styles but gradually grow to acknowledge and learn from each other.
Jang Nara, who is known for her cute and friendly image, transforms into a sharp and strict lawyer who frequently delivers blunt truths. Her character is realistic, doing whatever it takes to win cases for her clients.
Reflecting on her return to an SBS drama for the first time in five years since VIP in 2019, Jang Nara shared her thoughts. Through her role in VIP, she met the show's cinematographer, Jung Ha-chul, and married him in 2022. She humorously said, "Through VIP, I was able to try a new style of acting, met a great director and team, and even got married. Long live SBS!"
Director Kim Ga-ram explained the casting choice, saying, "I was very curious about how Jang Nara would portray Cha Eun-kyung after reading the script. There are so many charms of Jang Nara that viewers don't know yet, and I wanted to show them."
Good Partner is scripted by Choi Yuna, a well-known divorce lawyer and creator of the Instagram cartoon Marriage Red. The drama is expected to realistically portray the conflicts and various happenings that occur during the divorce process.
Nam Ji-hyun, who plays the novice lawyer Han Yoo-ri, said, "I'm especially curious about the feedback from viewers. Although the drama is about divorce, I think it is also a good show for families to watch together." She added, "The drama deals with separations and conflicts, but ironically, it makes you think about what genuine relationships are. It would be more fun to watch and discuss the show with others."
