SEOUL, Nov. 21 (Yonhap) -- The Eighth Army in Korea has updated on how idol group Day6 member Young K is getting along in army.

According to the US military on Monday, "Young K," Sergeant Kang Young-hyeon is serving as a human resources specialist (MOS 42A) in the S1 section of Eight Army Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion on U.S. Army Garrison Humphreys, located in Pyeongtaek.

On last Sunday, Eight Army released YoungK's latest news and his photo for their weekly "Faces of EightArmy," in which they choose one soldier among Korean Augmentation Troops to United States Army (KATUSA) to introduce each week.

YoungK is said to be specifically working in the Leave and Finance section of S1.

Regarding his work, YoungK said, "It's been a great opportunity to interact with so many different people, and even outside of S1. I have experienced so much in the Army during my time."

He also said the way soldiers treat goodbyes or even just life has given him many thoughts.

YoungK said, "Being able to 'drive on' would probably be one of the biggest lessons I learned," adding, "Looking forward to what life would bring in the future too."

Previously, YongK has won "Best Warrior Competition" held by Eight Army last May. The competition tests soilders in a series of events such as an eight-mile march, a water survival skills test, small arms qualification,land navigation, and obstacle courses

U.S army paper also introduced YoungK with the title "K-pop star wins US Best Warrior Competition in South Korea."

YoungK began serving in KATSU last October.

During a press conference for his solo album before joining the army, he said, "Because my dad is from KATSA, I have been hearing a lot of good things about it, and I also got lots of recommendations. It was a good opportunity."

Boy group Day6, who debuted in 2015 with "You Were Beautiful," became known after releasing "Time of Our Life" and "Zombie."

Group leader Sungjin (29·Park Sungjin) was discharged last September, and member Dowoon (27·Yoon Dowoon) and Wonpil(28·Kim Wonpil) each enlisted last Jan. and March.
