SEOUL, March 26 (Yonhap) -- "Attila" by Opera Giant Giuseppe Verdi (1813-1901) will be on the Korean stage for the first time.

Korea National Opera announced on Wednesday that it will showcase the opera “Attila” at the Seoul Arts Center Opera Theater from April 7~10 to mark the 60th anniversary of its foundation.

“Attila” is a masterpiece containing the solemnity of Roman historical dramas and the cruelty of war. At the time of Verdi's activities, his homeland Italy was ruled by Austria and France. The artist composed "Nabucco," "Don Carlos," "Il Trovatore" and "I Vespri Siciliani" to wish for independence. ”Attila” is also a work containing the desire for independence.

The main character is Attila, the king of the Huns who invaded Europe in the mid-5th century. He led the army to what is now France and was the man who drove the Western Roman Emperor away and terrorized Europe.

The work portrays revenge for Attila’s invasion. Odabella, who lost her father as Attila's troops invaded northern Italy, plans to kill Attila with her lover Foresto. Attila proposes to Odabella, who deliberately approaches, and tries to march to Rome, but ends with Odabella's sword.

Opera Director Giancarlo Del Monaco, the son of legendary Italian tenor Mario Del Monaco, will direct, and Valerio Galli, an opera expert, will conduct the performance.

Attila will be played by top bass Jun Seung-hyun, known as Attila Jun with his strong acting, and Park Jun-hyuk, while Ezio will be played by baritone You Dong-jik·Lee Sung-wang, and soprano Rim Sae-kyung·Lee Yun-jung will be Odabella. Tenor Andrea Shin·Chung Yi-kun will play Foresto, Koo Tae-hwan will be Uldino, and Na Han-yoo will be Leone.

Tickets cost 20,000 won to 150,000 won. The performance will also be available at 3 p.m. on April 9 through the Korea National Opera’s online streaming service, KNOmyOpera, and Naver TV for a fee of 20,000 won.
