SEOUL, July 3 (Yonhap) -- The Korean film “Broker,” directed by Hirokazu Kore-eda, won the top prize at the 39th Munich International Film Festival in Germany.
According to the website of Munich International Film Festival on Sunday, the jury selected “Broker” as the winner of the ARRI Award, the highest award of the film festival on July 2, the last day of the festival.
"It's a film full of nostalgia, determination and detours. The detours we must sometimes follow in life to find ourselves and each other," said the jury, including actress Sibel Kekilli. “We were able to discover a part of us through the movie.”
The Cinemasters section, which is the competition section of this festival, had 10 films invited including films that entered the competition section at the Cannes Film Festival, including “Broker,” “The Eight Mountains' by Felix van Groeningen and Charlotte Vandermeersch and Saeed Roustayi’s “Leila's brothers.”
Sang-hyun, played by the actor Song Kang-ho, who sells abandoned babies in '”Broker,” won the Best Actor Award at the Cannes Film Festival in May. Director Kore-eda also won the top prize at the Munich International Film Festival for “Shoplifters” in 2018.
