SEOUL, June 6 (Yonhap) -- Director Kim Tae-yong's latest film, "Wonderland," has taken the top spot at the box office on its opening day, drawing in over 80,000 viewers.
According to the Korea Box Office Information System on the 6th, "Wonderland" attracted approximately 82,000 viewers (with a revenue share of 36.4%) on its opening day, securing its position at the top of the box office. This pushed the previous leader, the Hollywood action film "Furiosa: Mad Max Saga" (with around 36,000 viewers and an 18.1% revenue share), down to second place.
As of 9 a.m. on the same day, "Wonderland" also leads in advance ticket sales, with 91,000 tickets sold and a reservation rate of 23.5%.
"Wonderland" is Kim Tae-yong's first new film in 13 years since "Late Autumn." The film explores the stories of people who reconnect with their loved ones through an AI video call service that recreates the deceased. The cast includes top-tier actors such as Tang Wei, Suzy, Park Bo-gum, Jung Yu-mi, Choi Woo-shik, and Gong Yoo.
