Police consider probe into alleged sharing of illegal videos of men on online women's community

SEOUL, June 3 (Yonhap) -- Police are considering opening an investigation into allegations that personal information and illegal videos of men were shared on an online women's community, the Seoul police chief said Monday.

The remark by Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency Commissioner Cho Ji-ho came after media reports that the personal identities and purported illegal videos of male users of a dating application were shared and ridiculed on an online community with about 840,000 female members.

The case became known as "the female version of the Nth Room," named after the notorious Telegram-based cybersex trafficking case between 2018 and 2020.

"Police have launched a (preliminary) investigation, and nothing particular has been confirmed so far as it began only recently," Seoul police chief said.

"We plan to shift to an official investigation if the need arises as we continue to look into it," he said.

The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency is reportedly in the process of a legal review to determine whether defamation charges could be raised against those who uploaded the information.
