SEOUL, May 27 (Yonhap) -- K-pop supergroup BTS continues to set endless records -- this time the group has added five new Guinness World Records with its latest single "Butter."
Guinness World Records published an article on its website saying BTS's "Butter" has broken five world records across YouTube and Spotify.
The music video for "Butter,"
which recorded 18.2 million views in just one day, was listed as the "most
viewed YouTube music video in 24 hours" and "the most viewed YouTube
music video in 24 hours by a K-pop group.
In turn, the music video was also recorded
as the "most viewers for the premiere of a video on YouTube" and the
"most viewers for the premiere of a music video on YouTube" for having
the most concurrent peak viewers (3.9 million) during the first screening of
the video.
The seven-piece act broke its previously
held record with "Dynamite," which had 3 million viewers last year.
After "Butter" was released, it
also earned the title of the "most streamed track on Spotify in the first
24 hours."
"Butter" was streamed 11,042,335
times on the first day of its release on Spotify, the world's largest music
platform. The track beat pop stars Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber's "I Don't
Care," which was streamed 1,977,389 times in 2019.
According to Guinness World Records, "BTS's
success on Spotify was confirmed by yet another record, marking their
unrivaled number of streams on the platform."
"As of 27 April 2021, the music of BTS
had been streamed 16.3 billion times on Spotify, breaking the record for the
most streamed act on Spotify (group)."
The figure is the highest among music bands
worldwide, surpassing British band Coldplay's record with 16.1 billion and
Imagine Dragons with 15.7 billion streams.
Coldplay also wrote a list on Instagram,
mentioning, "Here are some films and songs and books that I have found
helpful and wonderful," which included BTS's latest single
"Butter."
