S. Korea's only remaining coal mine set to be closed

A group of miners poses for a photo at the entrance of Dogye Coal Mine in Samcheok, Gangwon Province, northeastern South Korea, on June 27, 2025. The country's only remaining mine maintaining operations under the state-run Korea Coal Co. will be closed July 1, 88 years after it opened, as coal output has declined with the nation shifting toward greener energy sources.
