SEOUL, May 12 (Yonhap) -- Tottenham Hotspur, an English professional football club which Son Heung-min plays for, has decided to set up a system for supporters to attend the club's board of directors to quell criticism over its participation in the European Super League (ESL).

Tottenham made a statement on their website on the 12th (KST) and announced that it will introduce a Club Advisory Panel system in which the representative of supporters attends the board meeting in person and is involved in making decisions.

Tottenham plans to make related regulations in consultation with supporters so that the advisory station can act in an independent position.

"We have all learnt lessons from recent events and have reviewed fan engagement as a priority. The Chair of this Panel will be appointed annually as a full Non-Executive of the Club Board. We believe this provides for authentic, genuine representation and will ensure fans are at the heart of Club decision-making, something we greatly welcome," explained Tottenham.

Tottenham is one of the 12 "big clubs" that announced on April 19th to participate in the ESL.

ESL has virtually fallen through as English football clubs are withdrawing due to oppositions made by fans and pressure from the UK government.

However, supporters of the participating teams continued to protest in front of the stadium.

In particular, Tottenham supporters are demanding the resignation of the management teams, including Chairman Daniel Levy, saying the club has been operating in a way that did not consider the voices from local fans.

According to the official statement released by Tottenham, "We wholeheartedly regret that we involved the Club and that the legal process itself meant we were unable to consult our fans early on – we apologise unreservedly. We have offered on several occasions to meet Board-to-Board and discuss an open agenda -- excluding a change of Club ownership and the resignation of the Board. Our door remains open on this basis,"
