DP accuses Yoon of attempting to intervene in April elections
SEOUL, Feb. 15 (Yonhap) -- The main opposition Democratic Party (DP) accused President Yoon Suk Yeol on Thursday of rolling out pork-barrel promises ahead of April's general elections, urging the state election watchdog to look into the matter.
Rep. Hong Ihk-pyo, the DP's floor leader, made the accusations two days after Yoon traveled to the southeastern city of Busan and promised to enact a special bill aimed at developing the country's second-largest city into a global hub city.
"President Yoon Suk Yeol should immediately stop attempts to use the government for elections. The National Election Commission should make a judgment on this matter," Hong said at a policy coordination meeting at the National Assembly.
Hong also accused Yoon of "traveling around the country for illegal election campaigns while churning out pork-barrel promises."
