S. Korea calls on N. Korea to make 'right choice' on 10th anniv. of U.N. rights report

SEOUL -- South Korea's unification ministry urged North Korea on Friday to make the "right choice" of ceasing its nuclear and missile programs and improving the human rights of its people.

The call came a day ahead of the 10th anniversary of the release of the 2014 U.N. Commission of Inquiry (COI) report, which held the North Korean regime responsible for "widespread, systematic and gross" violations of human rights.

S. Korea reaffirms commitment to defending de facto maritime sea border

SEOUL -- The South Korean military said Thursday it remains firmly committed to the defense of the de facto maritime border with North Korea, after North Korean leader Kim Jong-un refused to recognize the border and vowed to defend its own boundary with force.

Col. Lee Sung-jun, the spokesperson of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS), made the remark after North Korean leader Kim Jong-un rejected the Northern Limit Line (NLL) as a "ghost" line and called for using force against South Korean vessels violating its waters.

Presidential staffer's private email hacked presumably by N. Korea ahead of Yoon's visit to Britain

SEOUL -- A presidential staffer's private email was hacked presumably by North Korea ahead of President Yoon Suk Yeol's visit to Britain and France last November, his office said Wednesday.

The hacking was detected before Yoon embarked on his tour and "necessary measures were taken," the presidential office said in a notice to reporters, noting the office's security system was not subject to the attack.

S. Korea vows 'overwhelming response' if N. Korea provokes

SEOUL -- The South Korean military said Tuesday it is ready to "overwhelmingly" respond to any North Korean provocations as Pyongyang is dialing up tensions with a series of new weapons tests.

North Korea said Monday it has developed a 240 mm-caliber controllable multiple rocket launcher shell and its ballistic control system to expand its weapons arsenal.
