Memorial day for victims of sexual slavery
Acting Gender Equality Minister Shin Young-sook speaks during a ceremony in Seoul on Aug. 14, 2025, to mark International Memorial Day for Comfort Women. In 2018, South Korea established the memorial day to remember the victims of sex crimes committed by Japan during World War II. The event came one day ahead of the 80th anniversary of Korea's liberation from Japan's colonial rule. (Yonhap)
