The independence fighter during Japanese colonial rule of Korea was executed at a prison in China by Japanese authorities after being arrested in 1909 for assassinating Ito Hirobumi, the Japanese resident-general in Korea, at a railway station in Harbin, a city in China's Heilongjiang province. The Japanese temple has conducted annual memorial rites for the Korean patriot whose Oriental Peace Theory called for the three countries ― Korea, China, and Japan ― to maintain independence and achieve Eastern peace by defending themselves from the invasion of Western imperialism through mutual aid.
