SEOUL, Sept. 8 (Yonhap) -- A South Korean woman in her 20s died after falling from the peak of a dormant volcano while traveling in Mongolia late last month, Seoul officials said Monday.

The accident occurred on Aug. 28 when the unidentified woman lost her balance in strong winds and fell about 10 meters while trying to take photos at the summit of the Uran Togoo volcano in Bulgan Province. She died at the scene.

A foreign ministry official said it has been providing necessary consular assistance, including sending a consul to the accident site from the South Korean Embassy in Ulaanbaatar.

Uran Togoo, a dormant volcano in northern Mongolia standing 1,680 meters above sea level, is one of the country's major tourist attractions and a popular destination for South Korean travelers.
