Lee's approval rating drops to 62.2 pct in first decline since inauguration: poll
SEOUL, July 21 (Yonhap) -- President Lee Jae Myung's approval rating slid for the first time since his inauguration in June after rising for five consecutive weeks, a survey showed Monday.
According to the survey by Realmeter and commissioned by a local news outlet, positive assessment of Lee's performance fell 2.4 percentage points to 62.2 percent from the previous week, while negative assessment rose 2.3 percentage points to 32.3 percent.
The pollster said controversies surrounding ministerial nominees during last week's confirmation hearings and damage from the recent torrential rains appear to have negatively affected the approval ratings.
The survey was conducted on 2,514 adults from Monday to Friday last week and had a margin of error of plus or minus 2 percentage points, with a confidence rate of 95 percent.
In a separate survey conducted by the same pollster on 1,003 individuals aged 18 and over Thursday and Friday, the approval rating for the ruling Democratic Party fell 5.4 percentage points from a week earlier to 50.8 percent.
Support for the main opposition People Power Party rose 3.1 percentage points to 27.4 percent.
The survey has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points, with a confidence rate of 95 percent.
