S. Korea to join U.S.-led multinational cyber exercise this week

SEOUL, July 21 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's Cyber Operation Command will participate in a U.S.-led multinational cyber exercise this week, the defense ministry in Seoul said Monday, amid growing security threats from North Korea across multiple domains.

Seven personnel from the command will join the five-day Cyber Flag exercise scheduled to kick off Monday (local time) in the U.S. state of Virginia, according to the ministry.

It will mark the fourth time South Korea takes part in the exercise since first joining it in 2022.

The exercise will bring together the "Five Eyes" intelligence alliance, which consists of the United States, Britain, Australia, Canada and New Zealand, along with other partner countries, to sharpen their joint capabilities to repel cyber attacks through practical training, it added.

Going forward, the command will seek to advance bilateral ties with its U.S. counterpart in the cyber domain through combined drills, and the exchange of personnel and technology.
