LIG Nex1 plans to change name to LIG Defense & Aerospace
SEOUL, Jan. 5 (Yonhap) -- LIG Nex1 Co., South Korea's major defense firm, said Monday it plans to change its name to LIG Defense & Aerospace, or LIG D&A, to better reflect its business scope.
The new name underscores the company's identity as a defense firm and signals its intention to expand into global, space and future-oriented sectors, according to LIG Nex1.
The company said the change also embodies its commitment to carrying on the legacy built over the past 50 years since its founding in 1976 as Goldstar Precision Industrial Co., while embracing new challenges for the future.
LIG Nex1 said it plans to finalize the name change at its upcoming regular shareholders' meeting.
The move will mark the company's first name change since it was rebranded as LIG Nex1 following its incorporation into LIG Group in 2007.
"This year, let us take another leap forward as a true leader in the defense industry by building a global foundation, accelerating research and development (R&D) and fostering a culture of communication," Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Shin Ick-hyun said in a New Year's message.
"This year marks LIG Nex1's 50th anniversary and will be the first year of a new beginning toward the next 100 years," he added.
