By Kim Han-joo

SEJONG, Feb. 4 (Yonhap) -- Acting President Choi Sang-mok emphasized the competitiveness of the country's defense and nuclear energy industries Tuesday in a meeting with top envoys from major countries to South Korea, according to his office.

The luncheon meeting was attended by 10 ambassadors and representatives from countries with ties to South Korea in these key industries, the finance ministry said. They are Saudi Arabia, Romania, Peru, the Czech Republic, Australia, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Indonesia, the UAE, and Poland.

"Our companies possess outstanding competitiveness in promising export sectors such as defense and nuclear energy," Choi was quoted by the ministry as saying. He also reaffirmed the government's commitment to cooperation on ongoing major projects.

Amid the ongoing impeachment trial of President Yoon Suk Yeol, Choi again sought support and trust in South Korea's resilient democracy.

In response, the attending ambassadors reiterated their unwavering support for South Korea and confirmed their commitment to maintaining friendly and cooperative relations through high-level exchanges, the ministry added.
