Fire breaks out at Nat'l Hangeul Museum in Seoul

SEOUL, Feb. 1 (Yonhap) -- A fire broke out at the National Hangeul Museum in central Seoul on Saturday, prompting an emergency response from local fire authorities, according to officials.

According to the Yongsan District Office and fire officials, the blaze originated on the museum's rooftop, producing thick smoke visible in the area.

Firefighters were working to extinguish the flames, while officials are assessing the extent of the damage.

Established in 2014, the museum is dedicated to promoting the linguistic and cultural significance of the Korean writing system, known as Hangeul.
