Japan holds memorial event for Sado mine workers
Participants attend a memorial ceremony commemorating the workers from the old Sado mine complex during World War II, on Sado Island, in Niigata Prefecture, off Japan's west coast, on Sept. 13, 2025. The mines are where more than 1,500 Koreans were taken to toil to produce war supplies for the Japanese imperial army. South Korea boycotted this year's memorial event for the second consecutive year, citing Japan's lack of sincerity in honoring the victims. (Yonhap)
