SEOUL, Oct. 27 (Yonhap) -- Amorepacific Corp. received a presidential citation as an organization for its contribution to the development of the renewable energy industry at a ceremony marking Renewable Energy Day 2026 held at COEX in Seoul's Gangnam district on Friday.

Hosted by the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment and jointly organized by the Korea Energy Agency and the Korea Renewable Energy Organizations Coalition, the ceremony was the first official event hosted by the government since Renewable Energy Day was designated a legal anniversary.

The government presented 12 government awards and 51 ministerial citations to individuals and organizations that contributed to the development and wider adoption of renewable energy technologies and the growth of the industry. Amorepacific was the only organization among the four recipients of presidential citations.

After becoming the first beauty company in South Korea to join the global RE100 initiative in 2021, Amorepacific steadily increased the share of renewable electricity from around 5 percent in 2020 and completed the transition to renewable electricity across all of its operations in 2025.

In June this year, the company became the first South Korean private-sector company to have its achievement of transitioning all of its global operations to renewable energy officially verified by The Climate Group, the organization that operates RE100, and was recognized as having achieved global RE100.

Amorepacific has converted electricity use across all of its operations to renewable energy through various methods, including solar power generation for its own use, direct and indirect power purchase agreements (PPAs), virtual power purchase agreements (VPPAs), green premiums and purchases of renewable energy certificates.

It has also continued to expand solar power generation facilities using unused space at its sites, with self-generated electricity now accounting for about 10 percent of the electricity consumed across Amorepacific's operations.

In particular, the company was an early adopter of new renewable energy procurement methods, signing South Korea's first direct PPA and VPPA in 2022, when conditions for procuring renewable energy in the country were still underdeveloped.

The company was also highly recognized for contributing to the establishment of South Korea's renewable energy procurement system and the revitalization of the market by sharing practical experience accumulated during the contracting process, including settlement and electricity trading, with various stakeholders, including government and public institutions.

It has also pursued various measures to contribute to expanding the country's renewable energy supply beyond achieving its own RE100 target, including creating renewable energy procurement models through long-term VPPAs that share the risk of market price fluctuations with power generators while fostering mutually beneficial relationships with local communities.

"The significance of this award lies not only in achieving RE100 but also in having our efforts recognized to proactively introduce new procurement methods and share our experience as South Korea's renewable energy market has developed," Kwon Soon-chul, an executive vice president of Amorepacific's Safety and Environment Division, said.

"With the achievement of RE100 as a new starting point, we will continue to expand procurement methods that can make a tangible contribution to increasing the supply of renewable energy and work with our partners to reduce carbon emissions throughout the supply chain," he added.
