SEOUL, Oct. 27 (Yonhap) -- A grand royal feast held at Changdeok Palace some 200 years ago will be reenacted under the autumn sky next month.
The Royal Palaces and Tombs Center under the Korea Heritage Service said Tuesday it will present "Joseon King Sunjo's Muja Year Yeongyeongdang Jinjakrye" at Yeongyeongdang in the rear garden of Changdeok Palace at 11 a.m. on Nov. 3 and 4, in cooperation with the Institute of Ethnic Dance at Korea National University of Arts.
Jinjakrye refers to a royal ceremony in which officials presented wine and food to the king and paid their respects on special occasions.
The performance will recreate a royal feast held at Yeongyeongdang in June 1828 on the lunar calendar by Crown Prince Hyomyeong, son of King Sunjo, to celebrate the 40th birthday of his mother, Queen Sunwon.
Based on the "Royal Protocols for the Muja Year Jinjak of King Sunjo," which documented the event, the production has restored and reconstructed the court rituals, traditional dances and music, costumes and other elements based on historical research.
The performance will feature such beautiful dances as "Bakjeopmu," which depicts butterflies fluttering their golden wings among blooming flowers, and "Chungwangho," which offers prayers for an era of peace and prosperity for the country.
The performance will be open to anyone visiting the rear garden of Changdeok Palace. A separate admission fee is required for entry to the rear garden.
